It has been over a week that we have been trying to ramp up the pace. We have seen the likes of Google and IBM‘s artificial intelligence based solutions. However, they were more of a PoC (Proof of Concept) work-piece which are either under development or are still to be readily accepted in their respective fields. All in all, they are not available to layman users in direct form.

When we talk about Artificial Intelligence, we do see the enormous focus The device is one of the first always-on, voice controlled intelligent home appliances that connects to the Internet and controls third-party services. It can answer trivia questions, tell you the weather, add items to a shopping list, and much more.of silicon valley towards utilizing AI for betterment and advanced products. And this is what bring us to Amazon Echo, the artificial intelligence based smart Bluetooth speaker which is designed to assist and follow by listening to commands.

For those who are not aware, Amazon Echo is a bluetooth based speaker which was unveiled by Amazon back in 2014 and was made available to general public back in 2015. It was one of its kind device which is always-on, connected to internet/network and listens to voice commands and acts.

Below is a list of command that you could try out (You need to call it Alexa and it will listen to you):

  • Alexa, what is the temperature outside?
  • Alexa, I am going out.. Would I need an umbrella today?
  • Alexa, add Nike running shoe latest model to my amazon cart.
  • Alexa, what is special about today’s date in history?

Amazon Echo is based on Amazon’s cloud based service for voice recognition called Alexa. This service in initial days was only able to assist with amazon based products. But lately, Alexa has been opened up for developers and they can integrate it with their solutions.

The suiteĀ Alexa Skill Kit was announced to make developers use Amazon Echo to listen to voice commands, interpret it through Amazon Alexa and use them as input to their products. Google, Apple and Microsoft already have programs called Google voice, Siri and Cortana respectively which does similar work as Alexa. But integration of Alexa Voice search with Amazon Echo makes it more capable, nearer to layman users. In fact, any one can buy Amazon Echo and use it at home.

We have seen Amazon Echo being utilized in Fintech domain (I personally worked on a Proof-of-Concept to handle bank transactions using Echo). In fact, Amazon did announce a fund $100 million which will go towards assisting developers with usage of their technology platforms for AI including Amazon Alexa and Amazon Echo.
